FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Fort Worth’s brand new bike sharing program officially opens to the public on April 22 at 10 a.m.
The Fort Worth B-Cycle program will have bikes waiting for anyone to rent. There will be 30 rental stations and some 300 bikes to carry riders from the Hospital District to the Arts District and from downtown to Texas Christian University (TCU).
On Monday morning CBS 11 News This Morning will be live with Fort Worth city councilman Joel Burns to preview the official launch event.
A large portion of the Bike Share Program is in Burns’ district. Earlier this year he talked enthusiastically about how the program would work. “Fort Worth Bike Share is a great program to allow folks to pick up a bike at downtown next to city hall, ride it down to magnolia to have lunch, park it there, have some one else take that bike somewhere else.”
Cyclists can simply swipe a credit card or membership card and the bike is theirs to ride and leave at another location. The idea first gained traction overseas.
The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) received a $1 million federal grant to start the program, and formed a non-profit agency to run it. Fort Worth B-Cycle is the first bike sharing system in North Texas.
CBS 11 News This Morning will be live on the air, riding with Councilman Burns on Monday, April 22 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. You’ll want to be sure and tune in since the exclusive ride and interview will offer a sneak peek at the new bike sharing program before it officially opens to the public at 10 a.m.
